ครบ รอบ 125 ปี Southampton เฉือน แบล็กพูลที่เซนต์แมรี่ 1-0

Southampton 1-0 Blackpool
Jason Euell missed a second-half penalty but Stern John's strike was enough to clinch a win for Southampton.

The Saints went ahead 35 minutes in when John slotted home Bradley Wright-Phillips' pass from close range.

But they spurned a gilt-edged chance to make it two when Euell's penalty was saved after 52 minutes following a foul on him by Shaun Barker.

Blackpool's best effort came in the first half when Andy Morrell's shot rebounded off the post.

  • Southampton boss George Burley:
Confidence isn't particularly high after recent results but we stuck in there and had opportunities to kill the game off which we didn't take.

Everybody has got to work hard together, it's key we all stick together as I always said this was going to be a tough season having sold our best players in the summer.

We've got to show character when things aren't going well and there's no doubt it's a difficult time off the field but we've all got to battle together.

  • Blackpool manager Simon Grayson:
Never mind we were denied just a point, we were totally on top of the game and the goal should have stood and we could have gone on to get the three points.

It is hard enough to get results in this division so to have decisions keep going against us is so frustrating.

The referee has admitted the mistake but it was a massive error and he just needed to have a bit of patience instead of being too eager to blow his whistle.
