International career

Chamakh made his international debut for Morocco in 2003 and was part of the side that reached the 2004 African Cup of Nations Final. Chamakh’s popularity in Morocco soared when he netted a last-gasp equalizer against North African rivals Algeria in the quarter-final tie which Morocco went on to win 3-1.

Since 2002, Chamakh has played for Bordeaux. His 14 goals in the French League in 2008-09 helped them win the title, ending Lyon's seven year domination. Chamakh's current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2010, meaning he will be able to move clubs without FC Girondins de Bordeaux receiving a transfer fee.

Due to his good form, there was much speculation about his future, with clubs like Arsenal F.C. and Liverpool F.C. showing interest.[3].

On 6th of February 2010, Chamakh claimed he wanted a move to North London club Arsenal F.C. and is reportedly going to sign for them on a free (bosman) transfer to Arsenal in the summer[4][5]
